Can you guys even believe that it’s July?! Summer just seems to be flying by & I don’t know what to think…we’ve definitely already made plenty of summer memories in our home. We’re coming up on 1 year of home ownership (you can read our post about buying a home here) & it’s crazy to think about what our house looked like before some of the projects we started on it! Today I want to take you through our dramatic fireplace makeover because the transformation has been AMAZING!
Our lower level started out as a really dark and dim area. The deep red brick made it hard to like being down in that space & one day I got the itch to paint our fireplace white and bright – thank goodness!! Like it honestly just looked ‘ew’ downstairs & I knew that this area had great potential to be a cozy, clean family room!
Here is the before picture! This image actually makes the space look pretty tiny & it’s really a great size! The brick was an old, rusty color and the built-in shelves needed a major facelift.

I ran to Home Depot on a whim & grabbed a $30 can of ‘Simply White’ paint by Behr and a few paint brushes – I think the total was around $40. I am honestly so amazed at what a can of paint can do for a space!

I think it took around 6 or 7 hours to paint the entire fireplace and bookshelves, which is SO worth it! As soon as I started painting, the difference was literally MAGICAL. Like just LOOK at this! Is it even the same fireplace?!

I just loooove how bright and big it makes the lower level of our house feel & I never have a problem with relaxing down there now 🙂 Before I painted the fireplace it kind of felt like a dungeon lol I’m so glad I decided to paint! Now it’s the best napping spot in our home 🙂 haha
