Weekend Guide to Fredericksburg, TX

Weekend Getaway to Fredericksburg, TX

Oh friends….what a crazy/busy last couple of weeks!  I think the one thing that always makes for a crazy week is the crazy weekend before and that is exactly what we have had the last two weeks! Lol But, our Weekend Getaway to Fredericksburg, TX was really nothing but amazing.  We had the absolute BEST time exploring this little town, tasting new food, staying in our luxurious B&B, and heading out to see all of the gorgeous vineyards to choose from!

If you’re wanting to explore a place with incredible views, the BEST food, & top-notch wine – then Fredericksburg, TX is the perfect place for you!  Fredericksburg is one of the many Texas Hill Country towns established by German immigrants in the 1800’s. N & I had never been out to explore the Texas Hill Country and oh myyyy goodness.  We had NO idea what we were missing out on.  The terrain is just gorgeous & the I could not stop obsessing over every dream ranch home that we drove by.

If you’re looking for a quick 2 or 3 day weekend getaway, this is the place for you!

Here is everything we did in 2 full days:

Where to Stay in Fredericksburg:

Fredericksburg isn’t full of your typical hotels, but it does have allllll of the B&B’s and cute cottage rentals that you could think of!  When booking your stay, you will most likely be booking through a company, such as Airbnb or VRBO – both vacation rental companies! After searching around and reaching out to the Hoffman Haus, I knew this was the place to stay!  This is a luxury Bed & Breakfast with several different cottages or homes to choose from to rent! And guys – it was the coziest little cottage I have ever been in!

We were placed in the Laurel Cottage and we were SO happy with it.  It had everything from the coziest bed, to our own kitchenette, to the most relaxing and luxurious soaking tub.  UGH, it was the best.

The Hoffman Haus was soooo welcoming – they give you a tour as soon as you check in, there are fresh cookies & coffee for guests in the lounge (yes, for real), plenty of books/movies/board games for guests to bring back to their room, and the grounds are just so beautiful!

Not only were the grounds beautiful, but there was a gorgeous spa ON SITE! And my absolute favorite part of the whole place (if you follow me on Instagram, you probably already know lol)….gourmet breakfast brought to your doorstep at 9AM every morning every your stay!!! Um, can it get any better?!

One of the top 3 breakfasts I have ever had in my life….

Other noteworthy places to stay: The Carriage House//All Seasons Downtown Retreat

Where to Eat:

After checking into our B&B on Friday evening, we woke up Saturday morning ready to explore main street & EAT! Lol does anyone else get super excited to eat on vacations???

The Ausländer: German Cuisine on Main Street – this is a VERY popular restaurant in Fredericksburg because of the cultural aspect that it brings! The menu is filled with traditional German recipes & beers.  Such a good restaurant to go to if you really want to get a taste of German culture!

I ordered the German Cabbage Rolls and they were actually quite wonderful!  To my fellow Nebraskans – it tasted extremely similar to a Runza! N ordered a Reuben, which was honestly the best ever. For dessert we ordered German Chocolate Cake, of course. 😉

Fredericksburg Brewing Company: German/American on Main – A typical brewing company with a  very laid back feel!

At the Brewery I ordered a Spinach/Artichoke pizza & it was seriously SO good.  We didn’t go on any tours or anything – we just ate here for dinner one night and it was perfect!

Jennie’s Smoked Burgers & Tornado Fries: American

Might be pathetic, but I think this was my favorite meal LOL! You just cannot go wrong with a burger and….tornado fries! They are basically a potato chips on a stick that they make right in front of you!

Obviously, we really didn’t go to any breakfast places because the Hoffman Haus is amazing and so hospitable with their breakfast brought to your door! But you guys know me – I had to find a coffee shop lol

Java Ranch: Espresso Bar & Cafe – Locally owned & SOOOO good.  I really love local coffee shops a whole lot more than corporate shops.  There is just something refreshing and unique about going to a locally owned coffee shop!

Any time I go to a new coffee shop I always order a caramel latte/triple shot/nonfat milk – just to test the waters!  I really enjoyed this cup ‘o joe.

N & I really didn’t go to a ton of vineyards – we chose two that we had read good reviews about! They were both very different in style, but we really enjoyed both of them!

Vineyards to Visit:

Barons Creek Vineyard: My favorite vineyard of the two! This one is a very classy vineyard with a beautiful tasting center, villas to stay in, and an outdoor venue! This was also the first vineyard we had ever been to and we got an amazing experience – we did a tasting with the wine-maker himself! It was just a little bit cloudy this day unfortunately, so the pictures aren’t very good!  The wine selection here was a lot of dry wines! Weekend Guide to Fredericksburg, TX

here are the villas that you can actually rent out! this would literally be a dream wedding destination.

Fiesta Vineyard: I didn’t take a ton of pictures at this vineyard, but it’s very different from the first! The atmosphere is definitely different – more laid back.  People came to drink wine & listen to live music in exercise clothes! haha wayyy different from Barons Creek. But we really did enjoy it! Their selection of wine was definitely a sweeter selection.

they have a large outdoor patio that is perfect for listening to live music! and there are two other wineries all in the same location as this one!

Activities:

After our day of exploring this beautiful little town on Saturday, we figured Sunday could be our outdoor adventure day! We had heard so many awesome things about Enchanted Rock, so we decided to take the 20 minute drive and take the hike!

This was the best decision ever – we loved ever minute of exploring it and honestly wished we would have taken made more time for it! If you haven’t heard of Enchanted Rock – it’s a massive pink granite dome that people hike on and around.  It draws thousands of visitors every year!  You can hike, bike, camp, rock climb, and so many more things!
