Happy Wednesday, friends!
I’m sitting here on our new rug & floor cushions typing this out while it is snowing like CRAZY outside! It’s been really cold here in Omaha, NE & keeps snowing snowing snowing. I don’t want to be one of those people that wishes seasons away, but I am so ready for the warmth and the beauty of sunshine, flowers, bonfires, and camping trips! I’m definitely itching for the warm weather to be here lol. But while I’m inside, what’s better than getting to decorate and switch up our decor every other week (not actually every other week, but kind of lol!)?!
I’ve really been focusing on finding home decor pieces that I love, that could make a great staple piece, and that I know we’ll easily be able to transition to our next home – hopefully a house! My ‘motto’, I guess you could say, for buying new home decor is if I’m still loving it in a month & I have a little cash set aside – I’ll buy it!
The most recent items I have bought are these floor cushions and rug and I am LOVING having both of them! I had my eye on these 2 items for a few months actually! Before we got both, our living room just kind of felt like this random big open space, which is fine, but it didn’t flow well. As soon as we got the rug, it felt immediately cozier & definitely more like home. It brings the attention to the center of our living room, which I love!
While I am so excited to have a rug and a cozier space, the color REALLY scared me at first. Lol sounds ridiculous – but I am such a neutral kind of girl! But, one of my home goals for 2019 is to add more COLOR (you can read more home + personal goals here)!! I’ve kind of gotten tired of just the neutrals and I can definitely feel a shift in my decorating style. I’m still not really sure what I would call my style of decorating, but I think once we actually have a house of our own and a blank slate for me to be creative, I’ll definitely be able to nail my style down! While the color did scare me a little bit, it has really grown on me!! After all, this rug really is gorgeous – and in person it’s even more beautiful! I love the details & design that it boasts and I have really been so excited to add such a staple piece to our little home 🙂 it makes me soooo excited to have our own house (hopefully in 2019!!) to decorate and truly make our very own!
Making this space more functional has already been such a blessing! Especially with guests – these floor cushions have been AMAZING! It just adds more seating and it’s been perfect. It’s also fun for me when I’m tired of working at my desk or the island. They are perfect for me to work on the rug & to spread allll of my work out 🙂 the floor cushions are velvet & are a tad pricey, but totally worth it! Here is a similar version of the cushions here.
Overall, it has definitely been worth it to add these 2 items to our living area! Sometimes with rentals I’m a little hesitant to buy things for them, but both the rug & cushions will be really easy to use in our next home 🙂 They are pretty versatile piece, which makes me feel comfortable about buying them!
